Local attorneys provide services to our clients.
Allegany Law interviews, screens, and assists clients in defining their legal problems. Only clients who meet eligibility criteria are provided with free services. The staff of Allegany Law provides direct legal services to eligible clients. Cases are also referred to local attorneys in the following areas of law: family law, tenants rights, consumer problems, bankruptcy and debt collection. Allegany Law is prohibited from taking fee-generating cases. Allegany Law is grateful to the Bar Association for their generous financial support and their numerous hours of donated services.

Services to People Over the Age of 60
Allegany Law has a contract with the Area Office on Aging to provide free service to people over the age of 60 without regard to income and assets. The areas of law include advance directives, deeds, powers of attorney, income maintenance problems and debt collection.
Family Law Self Help Clinics Allegany Law in co-operation with the Allegany County Circuit Court provides legal assistance to individuals in the community in filling out court forms in family law cases including divorce, custody, visitation, child support and name changes. Every Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Washington Street Public Library 31 Washington Street, Cumberland, MD 21502 & Third Monday of the month (excluding holidays) 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Frostburg Public Library 65 East Main Street, Frostburg MD 21532 These services include free assistance in filling out the civil court forms intended for pro se representation. We stronly recommend that you seek the assistance of an attorney to assist you in contested cases and will provide you with a list of resources in our community. |
Judicare Project
Our program administers a custody project funded by the Maryland Legal Services Corporation which matches low-income clients with attorneys in contested family law cases which are screened by the staff to determine eligibilty.
